Civil Litigation
A civil suit, unlike a criminal case, is generally one where a
private party or business is seeking money for damages
sustained because of another private party or business. A claim brought to
civil court can range anywhere from a breach of contract action
to a wrongful eviction. A private party is not entitled to a lawyer paid for by the state in civil
court, and private parties are able to represent themselves. However,
the rules of civil procedure are complicated and private parties are usually foolish not
to seek the assistance of an attorney. Civil litigation can be very expensive, yet at Lipton, Piper & Sganga we believe that keeping the attorney's costs in line with an expected judgement is an important goal. We always keep in mind that legal costs must be limited by the amount at stake. We represent both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of civil matters in all courts in the San Francisco Bay Area. We frequently handle these types of civil cases:
- Judgement enforcement / collections
- Landlord/tenant (commercial tenancies)
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance
- Wrongful termination
- Wage & Hour disputes
- Breach of contract
- Insurance coverage
- Personal injury
